The old dragon seemed to have noticed the visitors for the first time.
"Who are you to speak to me like that?"
He growled angerly.
"He is my guest, Makrius. As well as his friend."
Makrius growled again.
"So thats where you were all night. Off cavorting about with strange dragons and humans."
He said the word human as if it were a curse word.
"If your dear mother and revered father could see you now."

"I am the eldest and most trusted of her royal advisors. I do not order her around, I provide counsel when I feel she has made, or is going to make, an unwise descision. Such as with you two. Who are you to talk to me like that? I who have served the royal family faithfully for many many years. Since before you were born."
He thundered. Ember looked embarresed.
"These are guests. You will not speak to them like that."
Makrius laughed cruelly.
"Guests, Hah! They are just more strays you have picked up."

The dragon seemed taken aback.
"Do not threaten me, or you will never leave this castle alive."
At that statement, Ember seemed to have found her voice.
"I will not allow you to threaten and insult my guests. Now, go see that they have accomadations if they chose to stay. And after the treatment they have just recieved from what is supposed to be a hospitable, responsible group, I do not blame them if they chose to leave this moment."
Her voice was calm, but there was a strange edge to it, as if she was used to giving orders and having them obeyed.
"I am dreadfully sorry."
She said, once Makrius had left.

She bowed her white head to them both them looked at them through crystaline blue eyes.

Only her dedicated practice of concealing emotions allowed her to hide her suprise.
"It would be my honor, but there are many dangers, both from Makrius and his allies. I would not like for you to be hurt."
She said, allowing concern to creep into her voice.
